The Shortest Path to Success Is Staying on the Path You Already Chose Long Enough for It to Work
“The man who chases two rabbits catches neither.”
— An old proverb that has never been more relevant than it is today.
Every day, thousands of people decide they’re finally going to build an online business.
They buy a course.
Watch YouTube.
Listen to podcasts.
Join Facebook groups.
Ask AI.
Read blog after blog.
They are excited. Motivated. Ready to change their lives.
Then something happens.
A video tells them YouTube is the fastest way to grow.
The next day, someone says email marketing is the secret.
Then another expert insists they need a membership.
Someone else says they need webinars.
Another says paid ads.
Another says Pinterest.
Another says TikTok.
Another says AI is changing everything.
Suddenly they’re standing at a crossroads with twenty different signs pointing in twenty different directions.
So they take a few steps down one path.
Then another.
Then another.
Then another.
Six months later they’re exhausted…
…and they’ve never actually arrived anywhere.
The Problem Isn’t a Lack of Information
Twenty years ago, information was hard to find.
Today, information is everywhere.
The problem isn’t learning how to build a business.
The problem is deciding which advice to follow—and ignoring everything else long enough to make progress.
Every expert has a different blueprint.
Every advertisement promises the shortcut.
Every algorithm tells you you’re missing the next big thing.
Eventually you stop trusting yourself.
And that’s when your business stops growing.
Busy Doesn’t Always Mean Productive
This is one of the biggest traps I see.
People are busy all day long.
They’re redesigning their website.
Changing their logo.
Buying another course.
Learning another platform.
Watching another webinar.
Researching another strategy.
They’re working incredibly hard…
…but almost none of that work is moving their business forward.
There’s a huge difference between being busy and building momentum.
The Shiny Object Trap
It usually looks something like this…
Monday:
“I should start a podcast.”
Tuesday:
“Maybe I need a YouTube channel.”
Wednesday:
“Everyone says I need a funnel.”
Thursday:
“I should learn AI before I do anything else.”
Friday:
“Maybe I should build a membership.”
Saturday:
“I think I need to rebrand.”
Sunday:
“Maybe my website is the problem.”
The following Monday…
Nothing is finished.
Nothing has been launched.
Nothing has been sold.
Nothing has helped a single customer.
It’s not because you’re lazy.
It’s because your attention has been pulled in too many directions.
Here’s What I’ve Learned
I’ve spent more than twenty years helping small businesses build their business and take it to the next level.
I’ve worked with business owners who are brilliant.
Creative.
Hardworking.
Passionate.
Most of them don’t fail because they aren’t capable.
They struggle because they leave one path before it has time to work.
Success doesn’t usually come from finding a better strategy.
It comes from staying with a good strategy long enough to improve it.
Finish More Than You Start
One blog post.
One lead magnet.
One email sequence.
One offer.
One course.
One website.
Finish it.
Launch it.
Learn from it.
Improve it.
Then move on to the next thing.
Your first version doesn’t have to be perfect.
It has to exist.
Because you can’t improve something you’ve never finished.
Motion Creates Clarity
One of the biggest myths in business is that clarity comes before action.
It almost never does.
Clarity comes after action.
You discover what your audience wants after you publish.
You improve your offer after people buy it.
You become a better writer after sending fifty emails.
You become a better teacher after recording ten videos.
You gain confidence by doing—not by waiting.
Action creates feedback.
Feedback creates clarity.
Clarity creates confidence.
Confidence creates momentum.
Stay on Your Path
There will always be another expert.
Another strategy.
Another platform.
Another shortcut.
But here’s what I want you to remember…
The shortest path to success is staying on the path you already chose long enough for it to work.
Not forever.
Not blindly.
Just long enough to gather real data instead of chasing someone else’s promise.
If you’ve chosen your audience…
Created your offer…
Built your lead magnet…
Started your email list…
Keep going.
Don’t abandon your path because someone on social media found a different one.
My Challenge to You
This week, don’t buy another course.
Don’t redesign your logo.
Don’t spend hours watching another marketing video.
Instead…
Finish the blog post.
Send the email.
Launch the offer.
Ask for the sale.
Help one customer.
Take one meaningful step that moves your business forward.
Then tomorrow…
Take the next one.
Because businesses aren’t built by collecting ideas.
They’re built by consistently finishing what matters.
You don’t need another strategy.
You need a path.
A path you believe in.
A path you’ll stay on long enough to let it work.
